Why Older F1 Games Are Not Available On PlayStation/Xbox Stores (F1 2021, F1 2020, F1 2019 etc)

Some links on this page are affiliate links and I may receive a small commission from purchases made off them at no extra cost to the reader.

This is a problem I noticed when browsing the PlayStation store just now looking for bargain Christmas discounts on some older versions of the F1 games I’ve enjoyed before. Sometimes you can get a great discount and revisit older editions of the game (especially the F1 2021 and F1 2020 games I liked so much).

But when I checked, the older editions of the F1 games, basically from F1 2021 and before, are not there anymore. There are some forums that claim this is because you’ve already downloaded the game before and just need to find it on your Games list and re-download it.

This might have been true previously, but now, these games are just not available at all on these stores as digital downloads, period. They’re not even there if you search the respective stores on a browser, not signed into your PlayStation/Xbox account. They’ve been de-listed from the online stores completely.

Currently, only the F1 23 and F1 22 games are fully available on the PlayStation/Xbox online stores as digital downloads. All the games from F1 2021 and before are no longer available.

In other words, you can still download F1 23 and F1 22 for PS4/PS5/Xbox S/X on the respective online stores.

Here’s links to the 4 main versions still available:

Be sure to pick the correct edition for the correct console when purchasing.

Additionally, you’ve got some peripheral F1 games and add-on packs that are available on the stores:

  • F1 2021 is still available at the time of writing on the Xbox Store, but only bundled in as part of an EA Play subscription (can’t be purchased separately).
  • More expensive Champions Edition versions of F1 23 and F1 22, with extra bonus content and perks.
  • F1 Manager 22
  • F1 Manager 2023
  • Various PitCoin packs for these games
  • A few other DLC upgrades/bonus packs for these games.

Why Are The Older F1 Games No Longer Available?

It’s not made totally clear why these older games are no longer available, but it’s most likely to do with licensing restrictions. It’s common for quite a few game franchises which release yearly editions (such as WWE, Fifa) to have their older games de-listed on stores after a certain time.

This is probably most likely due to contractual/licensing/sponsorship issues which may only permit the games to be sold on these platforms for a certain time. Moreover, this is a rolling thing, so at some point in 2024, expect F1 22 to no longer be available, and then F1 23 might become unavailable at some point in 2025, and so on.

How Can I Get Hold Of The Older F1 Games?

Just because digital download versions of the older F1 games aren’t available on the official PS/Xbox stores, it doesn’t mean you still can’t get hold of physical copies of these older games.

See our Games page for links to all the older F1 games from F1 2021 and further back to F1 2016. See my comparison guide for my own breakdown of the best and worst F1 games from F1 2010 – F1 23.

But it’s definitely true that some of the older F1 games like F1 2018 and F1 2020 have stood in good stead with fans, with many actually preferring these older titles to more recent ones (F1 22 was NOT a popular title, as has been covered in detail on this blog. I personally think F1 23 is MUCH better, but some players aren’t even so keen on this edition either).

Here’s some options to check out to get physical copies of older editions:

US Readers:

  • Amazon is generally your best bet for online physical copies. Click here to check the current price of F1 2021 on Amazon (and from there you can also find copies of F1 2020, F1 2019, F1 2018 etc)
  • GameStop are also worth checking out.
  • Any other second hand games retailer will likely have copies of at least some of the older F1 games.

UK Readers:

  • Amazon almost always have copies of the older F1 games, usually for very good prices as well unless the game is in very rare supply. Click here to check current pricing of F1 2020 on Amazon UK.
  • The Computer Exchange or CEX store chain are also great for picking up copies of the older games really cheap.
  • Game stores might have older copies but CeX is usually better.
